Castagnola Heritage Yacht

Here’s the perfect blend of old and new in boat design. Gabriele Maestri’s new Castagnola Heritage 9.9 merges modern materials with traditional construction. A deep V wooden hull is the heart and soul of this beauty. They use a patented treatment called Wood in Tech Skin (WTS) that combines solid mahogany planks encapsulated with epoxy-infused carbon fiber which is lower maintenance and quieter than traditional woodys. The boat’s luxurious interior features lounging pads along with a single cabin with bath and galley. This 35 foot beauty is the ideal day cruiser or tender and hits 39 knots at top speed.

Castagnola Heritage Yacht

Maestri’s concept is actually an ultramodern rendition of the wooden vessels his grandfather, Giovanni Castagnola, built after he started the Castagnola Yacht shipyard in 1974. We love the timeless, elegant designs of yesterday but desire the latest in technology advancements. The Heritage 9.9 came from a general concept by Nauta Design, with Studio Names providing the naval architecture. The boat’s frames are made of strong, lightweight ash with an epoxy saturation. Maestri chose to keep the wood from the hull visible on the interior to feature its beauty. The yacht is customizable and comes in open or hardtop versions.

You can get one on order starting at $590K.

Wooden Boats WB40' Classic

Wooden Boats WB40′ Classic

Here’s an elegant modern day wooden classic. This 40′ cruiser was created and handcrafted by the Italian boutique boat builder, Wooden Boats. While wood is not a material one typically associates with modern luxury yachts, the shipyard has combined it with advanced carbon composites to create an unique blend between progressive marine tech and everlasting nature.

Wooden Boats WB40' Classic

The WB40′ Classic features a hull and deck made of mahogany plywood and carbon fiber, which are glued together using an epoxy-vacuum method. This technique makes her stronger, lighter and faster than traditional wooden boats, while still presenting that classic look of elegance.

There are three separate sun decks, including one atop the deckhouse, plus a spacious double bed and a bathroom with a shower. Up to 14 guests can fit aboard, and there’s even a kitchenette where you can whip up snacks and cocktails. She’s powered by twin 420-hp Yanmar engines controlled by joystick controls with a top speed of 40 knots and a cruising speed of about 36 knots.

Wooden Boats Founder & naval engineer Marco Arnaboldi is no newbie to the scene. He has grown up in yacht building alongside his father at AB Yachts. The builder also collaborated with leading Italian brands such as Benetti, Sanlorenzo, Pershing and Baglietto.

Stancraft Twin Arrow

The StanCraft Wooden Boat Co. was founded in 1933 by W.H. “Billy” Young and his son Stanley C. Young on Flathead Lake in Lakeside, Mont., where Stan produced some of boating’s most noteworthy designs. One model was the 22-foot Torpedo, which Stan partly designed in Seattle during World War II, while he was working for Shane Co. boatbuilders.

In 2008, the third generation—Amy Bloem—took over, with her husband, Robb. In northern Idaho they continue to build 14′ to 50′, 100 percent handmade African mahogany boats. Model lines include the Rivelle Series, but they also produce custom made to order. Most of their boats take nine months to build. All models, whether part of a series or custom, allow you to choose colors and finish, with the exception of the stock boats that have already been produced. Boats can seat four to 24 people, and some models reach top speeds of more than 60 mph.
