Mulo espadrilles

Mulo Espadrilles

The word espadrilles might as well mean yacht life. We found a pair from London-based Mulo that’s a nice blend of stylish casual. Using the slim silhouette of an oxford to build their slip-on espadrilles, Mulo creates this lightweight summer slip-on from premium materials that allows your feet to breathe.

Mulo espadrilles

They’ve done away with the traditional espadrille rope sole, for a cushiony rubber-crepe outsole and leather foot bed. Their textured linen uppers and braided trim creates a pair of coastal-ready shoes that pretty much demands a voyage to Waiheke Island or Saint Kitts. Ship ahoy!

Suicoke Sandal

Here’s a little colorful chic for your feet sure to create a little envy at the marina. Suicoke is a cult Japanese brand which originally made its mark with small accessories, such as hand painted ‘Matryoshka Dolls’. But now Suicoke has become known for its wide selection of performance sandals, including collaborations with the likes of Norse Projects.

Its signature features include neoprene panels and adjustable nylon straps, molded Vibram footbed, woven logo, and Vibram Morflex soles. The skid resistance sole is perfect for on deck. You can choose from many styles and colors.

We’ve chosen the Moto-VS Vibram sandal which you can buy for $249.99, regularly $339.

Body Glove Water Shoe

Body Glove Water Shoe

Ok, so this shoe is about function not fashion. The Body Glove water shoe provides protection for your footsies when busting out on a JetSki, kayak, SUP paddle, fishing or simply walking the beach or trails. The shoe is 100% thermoplastic polyurethane with a rubber sole for flexibility, protection and comfort. The toe shoe design has three toe pockets to allow for additional stability and protection for the little toes. Body Glove’s Integrated Drainage System (IDS) allows for water and air to move through the shoe for breathability — because we hate that soggy feet feeling.

Retails for $70.

Swims Loafer

Swims Loafer

The SWIMS loafer blends fashion and function ideal for the boat deck, pool side, chilling on the beach or an evening in town.

Inspired by his grandfather’s galoshes, a Norwegian entrepreneur created the SWIMS brand in 2006 with the goal of bringing style to rain wear.  The reinvention of the loafer has established SWIMS as an essential summer brand all over the world. With their innovation in material and construction, SWIMS has taken the loafer from the promenade onto the beach and into the water.

So move over Sperry. There’s a new loafer in town.

Malibu Sandals

Malibu Sandals

These Malibu Sandals from Westerlind are designed to be a comfortable and supportive trekking sandal for all warm weather excursions. They feature a hand woven 6-strap elastic upper that fits snugly, with a “signature M-Grip” outsole with slip resistant, non-marking rubber – ideal for boat decks. They’re more stable than many alternatives with midfoot and forefoot dynamic torque plates. And, well, they’re just cool.

SeaVees Baja Slip On

SeaVees Baja Slip-on

A slip on like these sweet Bajas from SeaVees seems to us to be an almost required piece of kit. Can one really live on the docks without a version of these for easy on easy off as you hop on and off the boat? I mean, why would you? So these Bajas from SeaVees are pretty much a no-brainer. Many fine companies make very similar versions, and frankly, these aren’t super differentiating, but they’re basic, affordable, well-built and a little more designed than some.

The Baja comes in five different somewhat muted colors constructed of vintage washed linen, so they’re soft. They have a contoured foam footbed for comfort, and the soles are non-marking (we’ve tested). These are the kind of shoes you may want to have multiples of. Nothing precious and nothing to worry about. Just good boat shoes.

Adidas Boat Shoe

Adidas Outdoor Terrex CC Boat Water Shoe

We featured the earlier iteration of this shoe before, but after testing them in a variety of boating adventures we felt compelled to recommend their latest version as well. These have proven ideal in situations that benefit from a combination of functions – from high-grip situations on the boat, to a wet scamper from the dinghy to shore, to an inland explore or even a dinner on the beach. You can do all of the above without sacrificing in any department. They drain nicely through the sole, yet never pick up sand or grit from below, and breathe really well in hot temperatures. Does it sound like we like these shoes? We do.

On sale now at Backcountry for less than $50 bucks.

VIVOBAREFOOT X Finesterre Boat/Water Shoes

The new Ultra boat and water shoes are a collaboration between VIVOBAREFOOT and Finisterre. Besides creating the longest name for a boat shoe imaginable, they’ve created a smart and comfortable, fully breathable closed-toe shoe that at first blush seems like a great solution. At YotLot we are on the constant hunt for a shoe that can be worn on and off the boat, in the dinghy and on during on shoe explorations and hikes. It’s a lot to ask of a shoe, and one of the reasons the hunt is still on. But these Ultra’s look like they have a good chance of addressing all of these needs. Furthermore, it’s the first shoe to be made using algae-based BLOOM foam – a sustainable alternative to petrochemical foams.
