This is a typically beautiful Ted Hood-designed Little Harbor 54, available now in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Now or Never is one of the few Little Harbor 54s that offer queen-sized centerline berths both forward and aft, plus a third cabin with upper and lower berths. She is exceptionally well-equipped and appears to have been maintained to the highest possible standards.
She features a Stoway rig, bow thruster, and electric winches, making her easy to single hand, but sufficiently outfitted for ocean crossings. She received a comprehensive refit in 2009, and the owners claim she has been continually upgraded ever since.
We’re suckers for Ted Hood’s work and believe these 54s to be some of his finest. Ted Hood, legendary racer, nautical designer, and technical innovator is known throughout the sailing world for his impactful legacy, including the 1974 America’s Cup victory as skipper of of one of his own designs, Courageous, one of this own designs. But his most lasting impact may be his design sense. As Yachting Magazine puts it, “Hood’s natural affinity for sailing allowed him to see shapes (maybe envision is the better word) differently from his contemporaries. His first boat was an 11-foot dinghy that he designed and built, but more important, he also made the sails for her double-spreader rig. Using his eye for shapes and his feel for performance, he modified those sails again and again until they were perfect.”
His keen eye for shape is clearly evident here in Now or Never. Take a deeper look at Wellington Yacht Partners.
