Magic is a 1961 Gumdrop Yawl currently in Rockport, Maine. These highly-regarded “Gumdrop” yawls were designed by K. Aage Nielsen and built by Paul E. Luke to high standards. Nielsen is particularly well known for his beamy shoal-draft centerboarders, which are known to show a good turn of speed for their length and comfortable accommodations for their size. Magic is one of six sisters built to Nielsen’s “Gumdrop” design. She has been upgraded over the years as required and well cared for by knowledgeable owners.
Born in 1904 in Denmark, K. Aage Nielsen moved to the United States worked in the famed design office of John G. Alden’s before becoming an important part of Sparkman and Stephen’s firm in 1932.
Nielsen is known for the exacting detail of his plans which were beautifully executed and scripted, drawing comparisons to the architectural plans of Frank Lloyd Wright.
