Cape Dory 45

This rare Cape Dory 45 was a popular post on our site when she was on the market a couple of years ago. Well, she’s back. Listed by Lyman-Morse, she’s ready for her next adventures. FIONA ROIS is the last built of only 3 Cape Dory 45 ketches ever built.

The Cape Dory 45 was one of Carl Alberg’s last designs, and was unique in both design and construction when compared to his earlier Cape Dory models. Her hull features more cutaway forward and aft, and different proportions, with a longer waterline and deeper draft.

She retains much of the character, charm, and certainly the build quality of her more diminutive sisters. But even more than the other Cape Dory models known for their full keels, robust build quality and seakindly hulls, she’s ideal for ocean crossings. She has a 64hp diesel inboard with only 890 hours on it, a large comfortable cockpit with Edsen helm with 40″ wheel steering.

Her interior is just gorgeous, featuring a comfortable two cabin, two head layout with separate shower. The interior of Fiona Rois is richly finished in rubbed effect varnished teak for the major bulkheads and trim with gloss varnish highlights.  Antique White high pressure laminates are used for the overhead panels (which are removable for access to the deck and wiring above) and bulkheads in the galley and heads.

Unlike most CDs, the 45s feature a roomy nav station with chart table and work area. Her ten bronze Spartan portlights and large overhead hatches with teak frames let plenty of light in. Her Espar diesel heater and 4 Hella fans help control climate in warm and cold. She’s equipped with Raymarine chartplotter, AIS, Autopilot and Satellite weather, with Garmin GPS and ICOM VHF. She has a cellular antenna and booster and an Iridium sat phone as well. Her recent Fusion stereo with speaker throughout and her flat screen TV will keep the crew happy when the wind is down. She comes with a full suite of 8 sails in total and three anchors.

Fiona Rois was completed in 1984 as Cape Dory Yachts display model and was commissioned for her first owner in 1986 who sailed her on the New England Coast.  Remaining in the Northeast, she has been continuously and meticulously updated and cared for and is currently stored inside a heated building at Hinckley Yacht service in Southwest Harbor, Maine. She is listed by Lyman-Morse for $189,000.
