Allow us to introduce SOVEREIGN of MALAHIDE. She’s an absolutely stunning and rare Malahide Trawler. This handcrafted artisan beauty is built for open water cruising and luxurious living. We’ve not only fallen in love with this boat, but we are equally impressed with the love and care the owner has personally put in to her.
Sovereign Malahide is a Portugese hull, hand crafted of Iroko and fitted with the classic Med, or Europa style providing lower centers of gravity, lower wheelhouses, and covered side decks. Knowing the value of the hull, the previous owner bought a boat yard to have the boat reconstructed and then sold the boat yard. Originally launched in 1973, both Portuguese and Norwegian bare hulls were towed to the Southern Marine boatyard for refit, including a new mahogany wheelhouse and salon.
Sovereign is a heavy, sawn frame, heavily planked and stable vessel. She has a canoe stern for stable tracking in turbulent seas, along with a full displacement hull. Sovereign’s hull is barrier coated with penetrating epoxy, then primed and painted with two-part Sterling epoxy-based paints, just like fiberglass. Her spacious upper house and top deck are fiberglass over wood core.
The interior layout is ideal for entertaining as well as privacy with multiple common areas and separated staterooms.
Down below are two large staterooms forward, and a third stateroom aft. All staterooms are spacious due to having full width beam to beam. The wood trim and teak is warm and cozy and the furnishings are stylish and luxurious.
Sovereign has a single Caterpillar engine, with open cruising speed of 8.5 to 9 knots while consuming 5 to 6 gallons of fuel per hour. Her full standing room engine room is immaculate and equipped with a complete workbench and tools needed for maintenance.
