1981 Cape Dory 33

SWEET PEA is a nice and tidy Cape Dory 33 that we found for sale in Maryland. She is obviously well maintained and in sail away condition, with recent canvas work completing her ship shape appearance.

Like most Cape Dory models, the 33 was designed by the great Carl Alberg, who among others is considered a father of the fiberglass era of sailboat design. Alberg worked alongside many of the other great naval architects, having began his career working with John Alden at Alden Yachts. Alberg went on to create several classic designs for Pearson Yachts, including the Triton, before creating the Bristol 28 and his most famous design the Alberg 30.

SWEET PEA hasn’t been in the water in seven years, having spent that time undergoing a refit and restoration work, with all new Sunbrella canvas, Isotherm refrigeration, Raytheon radar and chart plotter, and overhauled Data Marine gauges. She comes with a Hood main and Genoa, and a “like new” spinnaker. She has a new deck washdown pump and water heater.

These Cape Dory’s have a very loyal following to this day, with their fine lines, sea-kindly hulls and overbuilt construction. The 33 has a large, comfortable cockpit with teak coamings, and pedestal steering. Her interior is simple and comfortable, featuring the teak joinery that Cape Dory’s are so well known for.

SWEET PEA is listed for $36,500 in Maryland.
